What is your definition of spirituality? — What a tough question.

Perhaps spirituality is so elemental that it’s hard to define. Most of the time it is hard to use words to explain things that are so innate within us.

This post aims at collecting your definitions of spirituality, I will not close the comments on this post for a very long time in order to allow as many people as possible to tell me and the world what “Spirituality” means.

So what is spirituality and what does it mean to be spiritual?

Like I said I find it a little hard to explain what spirituality means. Here’s my attempt at this.

Spirituality is independent from religious beliefs, religious guidelines and taught practices. Spirituality is deeper than religion or any taught ideas. Spirituality is discovered on a personal level, it springs from your inner awareness and grows at your direction.

It is defined by (and it has a role in defining) my core values and my deep personal philosophy on life. Spirituality relates to the way I conduct myself and how I view and interface with the whole world.

Spirituality is in essence my awareness and interpretation to how I am connected to the world outside of my self and the world within myself and the interrelationships that exist between them.

Spirituality defines how one relates to others, life experiences, ethics, humanity and the whole physical and metaphysical or spiritual world. Spirituality allows a person to define their life and give meaning and purpose to it. It gives one purpose, direction, wisdom, modesty, appreciation, respect, love, it enhances awareness and provides intellectual and moral grounds. It enables one to cope with life’s challenges and illness. Spirituality makes one good, or better.

Spirituality connects one (gets you closer) with the universal life force or the higher creation; it as a result also connects one with everything that exists in one’s world.

Spirituality is shaped, matured and discovered through personal self exploration. Maturing and nurturing spirituality is an intimate and personal choice. The level of spiritual maturity depends on awareness, commitment and time dedicated to spiritual and self discovery.

One can improve their spirituality by being engaged in transcending oneself in order to question the meaning and purpose of life and the lives of others and by questioning all that is around them.

Spirituality is interrelated to each of the eight dimensions of wellness. Read this post on Spiritual Wellness.

Now tell me, what is YOUR definition of spirituality?
